Fulham are reportedly bracing themselves for a approach from Manchester United for Marco Silva. After sacking Ruben Amorim, United are on the lookout for a new head coach, with Silva the newest name appearing to be in contention.
β
The Sun report Fulham are concerned that United will turn their attention to Silva as he is yet to make a decision on his future at Craven Cottage. As things stand, the 48-year-old sees his current contract expire at the end of the current campaign, though a new three-year deal is on the table.
β
Silva has not yet provided a response to that proposal and regularly dismisses offering updates on his future, instead stating that he will go public with news when there is some. It has been widely-reported that he has concerns over the club matching his ambitions.
β
Fulham broke their transfer record to sign Kevin for Β£34million this past summer, but left deals for the Brazilian and Samuel Chukwueze until very late in the window.
Silva has been in charge of Fulham for three-and-a-half seasons but could depart this summer, which is when United are most likely to make a permanent appointment.
Under 18s manager Darren Fletcher will be in charge for Wednesday's clash away to Burnley at the very least, with an interim appointment until the end of the season plausible. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be open to taking on that role, with Fletcher also likely to be considered if he impresses over the next week or so.
β
Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner, former Barcelona boss Xavi, Enzo Maresca and Mauricio Pochettino β both formerly of Chelsea β have all been linked as permanent successors.
Amorim was sacked by United on Monday after 18 months in the job following a falling out with those above.
In his final act as United boss, the Portuguese unleashed an explosive rant aimed the hierarchy in which he directly named several other high-profile managers and Gary Neville.
β
He said after the 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday: "I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United.
βAnd that is clear. I know that my name is not [Thomas] Tuchel, itβs not [Antonio] Conte, itβs not [Jose] Mourinho, but Iβm the manager of Manchester United.
β
βAnd itβs going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change. So that was my point. I want to finish with that. Iβm not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.
βI just want to say that Iβm going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach. And I was really clear on that. And that is going to finish in 18 months and then everyone is going to move on. That was the deal.
βThat is my job, not to be a coach. If people cannot handle the Gary Neville's and the criticisms of everything, we need to change the club.
