The details around Mohamed Salah's new contract are starting to emerge after Liverpool announced he had committed his future to the club. Salah had been set to leave on a free transfer this summer.

Talk around his future has dominated the headlines as Liverpool marched to the title this season. He has scored 32 goals and notched 22 assists in all competitions, with Arne Slot's side surging to the top of the Premier League.

But with the Egyptian turning 33 in June there was some doubts over whether he would remain at Anfield. Liverpool have previously shown a reluctance to hand lucrative deals to veteran players.

That policy has been overlooked though, with Liverpool keeping hold of their star attacker. With seven games left of the season, Slot is keen to keep his side focused on the title race, having lost three of their last four matches in all competitions.

The news that Salah's contract situation has been sorted will be a huge boost for the Dutchman. And Liverpool have also ensured that the Egyptian's future will not dominate the headlines next season.

According to The Athletic, Salah's new contract is a two-year deal. That will ensure he remains at Anfield until at least the summer of 2027.

It is added that Salah's contract is a lucrative one, with the attacker having earned a wage of £350,000 per week with his previous deal. A pay cut was never discussed during the latest negotiations, though it is unknown if Salah has been handed a pay rise.

Boss Slot admitted to being relieved that Salah's future has now finally been confirmed. He insisted that the praise for finding a breakthrough should rest with sporting director Richard Hughes.

"I am happy, of course. He has shown for so many years in a row how much value he has to the club, like all the fans and the team-mates they are very happy he has extended for two more years," Slot said.

"Relief? For the fans I think so. It's no surprise to you I knew a bit better how the contract situation went. I knew a bit longer things were heading in the right direction. It is a big compliment to Richard Hughes because Mo Salah, as a free agent, can go to any club he wants to.

"I am part of the process but I don't deserve the compliments, it's Mo, his agent and then FSG, Richard, they all put the effort, which means money! But also effort. What it might tell you is that it is not only a good season now we want more next season and Mo is convinced we can do so. So that is positive for us.

"We're always triyng to achieve more, but at LFC, you're at the maximum of your ability, so not a lot of room to improve anymore, but you strive for perfection. We can reach excellence on the way [if we're not perfect].

"Mo is clear he is coming close to the end of his ability, not his career. We have had the maximum from his qualities this season and then it is about consistency which is the hardest thing in football."
