Craig Shakespeare will meet Leicester ’s owners on Wednesday, with his players backing the caretaker boss for the job full time.

Former England manager Roy Hodgson has been sounded out by the King Power hierarchy since the sacking of manager Claudio Ranieri last week.

But after playing out of their skins under Shakespeare to humble Liverpool on Monday night in his first game in charge, Ranieri’s former No.2 is in pole position to be handed the job for the final 12 games of the season.

Leicester’s players, who complained about Ranieri’s tactical ‘tinkering’ to the chairman, are pushing for Shakespeare.

And the 53-year-old coach is set to be in charge for Saturday’s pivotal home game with relegation-scrap rivals Hull after the Foxes confirmed he will be taking the pre-match press conference.

But club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who ruthlessly dumped title-winning Ranieri last week, is also considering other options for the longer term.

The Thai billionaire businessman held talks last Friday with Hodgson, who is keen to return to management despite overseeing England’s dismal Euro 2016 campaign, which ended with defeat by Iceland.
