Diogo Jota's sons centre stage in emotional tribute to late forward

Diogo Jota's sons join Liverpool and Wolves stars in emotional tribute to late forward

The emotional display comes just months after the former Liverpool and Wolves forward tragically died in a car accident in July.

Liverpool FC has honoured the memory of Diogo Jota, the former Reds player who tragically lost his life in a car accident earlier this year. An emotional tribute was held at Anfield during the first match between Liverpool and Wolves since Jota's untimely passing.

Jota's wife, Rute Cardoso, who became his spouse just two weeks prior to the fatal crash, watched from the stands as their sons Dinis and Duarte took on the role of mascots. The young boys were escorted onto the pitch by Liverpool's captain Virgil van Dijk and Wolves' goalkeeper Jose Sa, while the crowd sang a heartfelt rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.

Van Dijk then led Dinis and Duarte over to the Kop for a friendly kickabout, earning applause from the spectators. Prior to the game, Wolves supporters had congregated at Jota's memorial outside Anfield, with many leaving tokens of remembrance.

On Boxing Day, the entire Wolves team visited Anfield to pay homage at Jota's memorial situated outside the stadium. Executive chairman Nathan Shi, manager Rob Edwards and goalkeeper Jose Sa all laid floral tributes in honour of the late footballer.
