Players and stewards found themselves attacked by hooligans in appalling scenes during Go Ahead Eagles' 4-0 home defeat by De Graafschap on Sunday.

After the hosts fell 4-0 behind to their rivals, following three quick second half goals, a number of the home fans had seen enough.

The hooligans ran onto the pitch, outnumbering the stewards and began attacking some of De Graafschap's stars.

Aggressive kicks and shoves were aimed at the players who, at times, were forced to defend themselves.

The stewards eventually got things under control with the help of plain-clothed police officers.

However, a small second wave broke through causing further chaos before they were also restrained and escorted off the pitch.

The away supporters, meanwhile, continued to belt out their support for their heroes.
