Cristiano Ronaldo is set to live a life of luxury as he aims to finally lead Portugal to World Cup glory. The 40-year-old will enter his last chance to win the sport’s biggest prize this summer.

The Al-Nassr star is the leading goalscorer in the history of men’s international football. He has scored an incredible 143 goals in 226 caps, which is also a record number of games.

Ronaldo has helped fire Portugal to glory during his storied career, winning Euro 2016 and also clinching two Nations League titles. However, the World Cup has so far eluded the iconic striker.

The former Manchester United star was part of the Portugal squad that reached the semi-finals at England's expense in 2006. In subsequent tournaments, the country failed to progress to the quarter-final stage until 2022 and Ronaldo will be eager to end his nation’s wait for their first World Cup trophy.

It seems there will be no expense spared in Portugal’s pursuit of glory. Marca reports that Portugal have selected a five-star resort in Mexico as their base for the upcoming tournament.

The World Cup will be played across the USA, Canada and Mexico, making a country's choice of hotel vital in terms of logistics. Portugal have opted for the Fairmont Mayakoba resort on the Riviera Maya, despite none of their group games taking place in Mexico.

The luxurious Fairmont Mayakoba is located just a few kilometres from Playa del Carmen. The stunning resort will enable Ronaldo and his teammates to relax in comfort, surrounded by top facilities, as they strive to lift the World Cup.

The hotel spans 97 hectares of rainforest and coastline, providing direct access to the beach. It boasts five swimming pools, including a 3,000 square-metre main pool with a bar. Additionally, there is an infinity pool overlooking the water, reserved exclusively for adults.

Players searching for a way to unwind may take up the opportunity to use the resort’s top golf course. There are also other sports facilities on site, as well as spaces designed to ensure privacy, which should provide Portugal with ample space to conduct training.

The hotel has 401 rooms, with the luxury rooms starting at a rate of £866 per night and rising to approximately £2,227, according to Marca. The accommodation offered includes beachfront suites and private bungalows, with the Portugal squad likely to be staying in the pricier rooms.

All rooms at the Fairmont Mayakoba feature marble bathrooms, deep bathtubs and coffee makers. There will also be plenty of opportunities for the Portugal players to take a dip, as the resort is surrounded by water.

Mexican outlet Excelsior has detailed that the hotel was chosen to host Ronaldo and the squad due to its convenient location. It is situated 40 minutes from Cancun International Airport, simplifying their potentially long journeys.

During their World Cup group, Portugal face a play-off winner and Uzbekistan at the NRG Stadium in Houston. A direct flight from Cancun to Houston takes two-and-a-half hours.

Their other group game against Colombia is being hosted at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Similarly, a flight from Cancun to Miami takes one hour and 40 minutes.

Should Portugal win Group K, their round of 32 tie will be held in Kansas City, which would be an almost three-and-a-half-hour flight. Following this path, their round of 16 match would then be hosted in Vancouver, a journey of more than four hours from Cancun.
