Cesc Fabregas celebrated guiding Como to a Serie A return after more than two decades away by telling the players: "This is only the warm up."

But the former Arsenal and Chelsea star, who is officially assistant manager of the Italian side he part-owns while he completes his coaching badges, has agreed to take them to Ibiza for a celebration party.

Watched on by fellow co-owner Thierry Henry, senior advisor to the board Dennis Wise and Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, Como came from behind to draw against Cosenza last night.

And with Venezia losing 2-1 away to Spezia on the final evening of the second tier season, a tie was enough for Como to win promotion in second spot behind champions Parma.

Their triumph sparked wild celebrations in the north Italian town frequented by A-List celebs, with Fabregas leading the way by giving the team a speech.

"First of all, congratulations, you truly had a season of champions," he told the jubilant squad inside their changing room. "I know that today we didn't finish the way we perhaps wanted, by winning, so tomorrow, training at 10.

"But one thing I have to say before we go out there with all of our fans, thank you but be strong because this year is nothing. This is only the warm up. Next year, more efficiency, more work. And like how I promised and how I wanted, do you want to go to Ibiza?"

Henry, who took a minor stake in the club at the start of last season, flew in for the showdown. Wise, meanwhile, invited Vardy to the game having toasted the striker’s own promotion back to the Premier League with Leicester City.

Five years ago Como were playing part-time football in the fourth tier and at risk of extinction. But they were taken over by the entertainment wing of Indonesian corporation Djarum Group, with UK-based creative Mirwan Suwarso placed in charge of rebuilding the club.

He installed Wise as top advisor and the club has grown quickly to seal its return to Serie A. A new state of the art training ground has been built on the outskirts of Como, while the club have plans to redevelop their stadium on the edge of the iconic Lake.

Fabregas, who retired as a Como player at the end of last season, had initially taken a job coaching the club's Under-19 team but stepped in as temporary first-team manager during the winter.

But owing to not having yet completed his Pro Licence, former Wales assistant Ossian Roberts arrived as caretaker with Fabregas as his deputy. They lost just one of the final 13 league games.
