Celtic make Wilfried Nancy sack decision as pressure mounts on under-fire boss - The Mirror

Wilfried Nancy's future as Celtic manager has become the subject of intense speculation after the recent defeat to Dundee United

Celtic have reportedly decided against parting ways with manager Wilfried Nancy for the time being amid one of the worst runs of form in the club's history. Wednesday's defeat to Dundee United was the Hoops' fourth loss in a row across all competitions.

Nancy was appointed as Celtic manager earlier this month to replace interim boss Martin O'Neill, who had been brought back to the club following Brendan Rodgers' departure.

All four of Nancy's matches in charge of Celtic have ended in defeat, with the Scottish Premiership giants now six points adrift of leaders Hearts in the table with a game in hand.

Wednesday's defeat to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership led to intense speculation that Nancy's time as the club's manager may be nearing its end.

However, a report from the Daily Record, the Mirror's sister title in Scotland, says otherwise. It has been claimed that there are currently no discussions taking place among the Celtic board about Nancy's future despite the ongoing speculation after the loss to Dundee Utd.

It was the first time since 1978 that Celtic had lost four matches in a row across all competitions, with Nancy and Co. looking to avoid a fifth when they face Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon in the Scottish top-flight fixture.

Former Celtic star Chris Sutton was one pundit to question Nancy's future at the club following Wednesday's defeat.

After the loss at Tannadice Park, Nancy responded to a question from a TV reporter who quizzed the Celtic manager about whether or not the club 'may not be the right place for him'.

β€œNo. Come on," Nancy answered in an interview with Sky Sports.

The former Columbus Crew boss added: β€œI know the situation. Everyone wants to win, me too. I know that there are improvements. Context, just step back and have a look about the context.

β€œThe idea is to see what we can do, we can do to improve the team and improve the players. I think I am in a good direction with the players.

β€œWe had a good performance, but in three minutes, we lost the game. That is factual and that is the situation.

β€Œ

β€œNow, I can understand the fans are not happy with me, I understand that. I want to have a connection with them. It is difficult at the moment because we didn’t win.

β€œI understand that but if I look at the performances we are getting there. I am happy to be here and I am going to do everything to help the team win games."
