Jimmy Glass remains etched in the hearts of Carlisle United fans for his goalscoring heroics a quarter of a century ago.

A goalkeeper finding the back of the net is a rare sight, but Glass, who was on an emergency loan from Swindon Town, managed to do so in the dying embers of their final match of the 1998/99 season, saving them from falling out of the Football League.
β
Scarborough, their relegation rivals, thought they had done enough with a 1-1 draw against Peterborough United, leading to their fans storming the pitch. However, Glass's last-minute goal shattered their hopes exactly 25 years ago today (Wednesday, May 8).

He was only 25 at the time but retired just two years after his iconic goal. He briefly worked as an IT salesman before becoming the managing director of a taxi company, where he stayed for over a decade.

In 2016, he made a comeback to old club Bournemouth.
During his two seasons with the Cherries from 1996-98, he enjoyed regular first-team football, and they offered him another chance to serve as a player liaison officer and a hospitality host.
β
He maintained his position with the south coast club until last summer, when he took on the general manager role at Wimborne Town. His responsibilities include "managing and developing the club's operational programmes, community initiatives and footballing infrastructure".
Those efforts off the pitch seem to have made an immediate on-field difference, as Wimborne earned promotion to the seventh tier of English football, emerging as the Southern League Division One South champions this season, reports the Daily Star.
β
Already making strides towards their target, Glass disclosed to Buzz back in November that he aims for the National League in the next four to five years. "If I'm out by a year or two, so be it, it's not massively important if we're not there. If we fall short and end up in the National South it's not the end of the world," he said.
Despite only making three appearances for Carlisle, returning to Swindon that summer, Glass' contributions will forever be forgotten in Cumbria, solidifying him as a club legend forevermore. In 2007, Scarborough were liquidated, a fate that could have possibly awaited Carlisle had it not been for him.
