The Carabao Cup saw the Premier League sides avoid upsets in the second round.

Seven top flight sides took on lower league EFL opposition, with all seven sealing a safe passage although many had to bide their time.

Whilst Aston Villa, Norwich City, Leeds and Wolves romped to big wins there were struggles for Brentford and Everton.

They both ended up getting the job done against Forest Green and Huddersfield respectively, but had to dig in to reach the next round. Brighton maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with an impressive win at Cardiff whilst Watford came out on top in the all-Premier League tie against Crystal Palace.

Attentions now turn to the third round and the seven top flight sides in European competition this season now enter the fray.

That includes holders Manchester City, who are chasing a fifth consecutive trophy.

They will join the confirmed 22 teams already in the hat, which includes seven Championship sides, five from League One and two from League Two.

Wednesday sees the three outstanding ties take place, with at least one more Premier League side guaranteed to be in the hat as Newcastle host Burnley.

The draw will take place live on Sky Sports Football after the conclusion of the second round tie between West Brom and Arsenal, at roughly 10pm. Ball numbers will be confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.
