Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked manager Vitor Pereira with the team rooted to the foot of the Premier League table. The decision comes just weeks after the Pereira, 57, was handed a new three-year contract.
Saturday's dire 3-0 loss away to Fulham was the final straw, leaving Wolves stranded rock bottom with no wins from their opening 10 games. Pereira made nine changes to his starting XI from the side that was eliminated by Chelsea the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, but they were unable to inspire a victory at Craven Cottage.
Wolves played more than half the game with 10 men after Emmanuel Agbadou's 36th-minute red card, but were already 1-0 down at the time. Harry Wilson then added to Ryan Sessegnon's early opener before a Yerson Mosquera own goal completed the rout and brought the curtain down on Pereira's 11-month reign.
Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi commented: "Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful.
"Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change. We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future."
Appointed in December 2024 to replace Gary O'Neil, the Portuguese helped steer Wolves to safety last season. But the loss of star player and leading goalscorer Matheus Cunha, after Manchester United triggered his £62.5million release clause, was a hammer blow.
Their only wins this season came in the Carabao Cup, both on home soil. Wolves beat West Ham 3-2 in the second round before they earned a 2-0 victory over Everton.
Saturday's defeat at Fulham leaves them eight points from safety. Even the pair of 1-1 draws that Pereira managed to pick up were gut-wrenching, conceding late equalised away to Tottenham and at home to Brighton on successive weekends.

The former Porto, Olympiacos and Fenerbahce boss - who's known for his short tenures at clubs - was given two more games by the Wolves hierarchy, but they've now wielded the axe began searching for a replacement.
Their next match is away to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday. Under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 boss Richard Walker will take training while Wolves look for Pereira's successor.
