Amorim drops major Man Utd transfer hint with Rashford and Garnacho calls

Ruben Amorim is running out of time to add to his Manchester United squad before the transfer window shuts, and his starting line-up against Fulham may have contained clues

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim handed Alejandro Garnacho another start against Fulham, but there was no place for Marcus Rashford as the forward continues to be linked with an exit.

Garnacho and Rashford have both been linked with January exits, following reports earlier in the month that United were open to offers for their entire squad. However, while the latter hasn't featured since mid-December, the former has tasted action more regularly.

Napoli and Chelsea have both been linked with Argentina international Garnacho, who is expected to fetch north of Β£50million if United do sell. Amorim trusted him from the start against Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday, and the winger kept his place in West London.

Rashford wasn't even in the matchday squad, though, as questions remain. Barcelona appears the most likely destination for the England international, who has indicated he is ready for a new challenge.

Head coach Amorim has made a number of tweaks to the side who left it late to beat Rangers on Thursday. One of those sees Andre Onana return in goal, while Rasmus Hojlund has been chosen to lead the line ahead of Joshua Zirkzee.

Captain Bruno Fernandes was the match-winner on Thursday and starts in West London. The 2-1 win means United are in pole position to reach the round of 16, though the victory wasn't without some scary moments.

Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro both left the field early against Rangers with injury worries, while Noussair Mazraoui were rested. De Ligt and Mazraoui both start against Fulham, though, with Yoro on the bench.

Amorim was also asked about Rashford in the lead-up to Sunday's game, but couldn't give a definitive answer. "I don't know. I really don't know," he said. "Guys, it's eight days. We will see in the end of the window what happened. And then we will talk about that in the moment."

Fulham, who were beaten by United on the opening weekend of the season, have named former Red Devils star Andreas Pereira on the bench. Also among the subs is striker Rodrigo Muniz, who escaped injury after a fall in training.

Cottagers boss Marco Silva recognised the quality of United skipper Fernandes in his pre-match press conference. β€œWith space, they are capable of punishing you," he said. "The quality they have in certain areas of the pitch is really high.

"With a player like Bruno [Fernandes], they have a player who is able to provide in a very good and assertive way in most of the moments they create. He’s a player who sees different things. The game can go in many different directions, it can be a more open game, a more compact game, but let’s see how it goes."
