Sam Allardyce faces the threat of also being removed from the League Managers' Association board after his ousting from the England job.

Allardyce has been a major player in the managers’ union for many years, but some of its senior figures now want him thrown out.

The association’s nine-man board, chaired by Howard Wilkinson, insisted on Wednesday that they ‘fully respect’ the decision of the Football Association and Big Sam to part company .

And Allardyce could still face FA disciplinary action over his comments - even after losing his dream job, which he held for just 67 days.

Chairman Greg Clarke said: “I don’t know whether he has broken any rules, because the FA disciplinary department will investigate the allegations and make a decision.

“The issue for us was one of an employee’s behaviour and whether he could carry on as England manager having said some of the things he had said.

“He admitted that behaviour was foolish, put his position in jeopardy and we discussed it and he decided to move on.

“The allegations will be investigated by the arm’s length disciplinary department at the FA and I’ll have nothing to do with that, as is quite proper.”

As England boss, Allardyce would have followed his predecessors and been elevated to the position of LMA president. That honour will now elude him.

Allardyce’s mocking of Three Lions predecessor Roy Hodgson is said to have dismayed some senior LMA figures, and could lead to his removal from the organisation’s board.

The FA will study evidence from the Daily Telegraph's sting and decide whether to charge the 61-year-old, who could end up being hit with a fine or suspension.

That would rub salt into the wounds for Allardyce, who left by mutual consent after admitting he had made a huge mistake in meeting Telegraph reporters posing as businessmen.

The former Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Ham and Sunderland boss will now fly out on holiday, but suggested on Wednesday that he wants another managerial job in the future.

Allardyce told reporters: “On reflection, it was a silly thing to do.

"I was trying to help someone out I knew for 30 years and unfortunately it was an error in judgement on my behalf. Entrapment has won on this occasion.

“The agreement was done very amicably, I apologised to the FA and all concerned for the unfortunate situation I put myself in.”

Big Sam’s agent, Mark Curtis, is believed to have advised him not to go to a second meeting, in Manchester, with the undercover reporters posing as businessmen.

But Allardyce said he was trying to do a favour to Scott McGarvey, a friend of ‘20 or 30 years’.
