Michael Owen agreed with Gary Lineker over Arsenal's controversial winner against Tottenham in Sunday's North London derby.

Alexandre Lacazette's second-half penalty earned the bragging rights at the Emirates after Martin Odegaard had cancelled out Erik Lamela's exquisite opener.

But the Tottenham bench was less than impressed with Michael Oliver's decision to point to the spot, with Spurs boss Jose Mourinho leading the protests.

Lacazette was through on goal as the Gunners went in search of a winner, but sliced his effort horribly just before being clattered by Davinson Sanchez.

And Lineker and Owen both took to Twitter to say the spot-kick shouldn't have been awarded.

"I can’t see that as penalty," tweeted former Spurs striker Lineker. "He’s miskicked it completely and booted him in the follow through."

Owen agreed - although the ex-Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid star felt Arsenal were good value for the win.

"I’d say @Arsenal thoroughly deserved their North London Derby victory," he posted.

"But their winning goal was never a penalty."

Owen hailed Mikel Arteta after the Gunners boss dropped top-scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over a disciplinary matter - but still came away with a crucial three points from Sunday's Premier League clash.

"Big statement from Arteta," Owen added in his tweet. "Dropped his best player for disciplinary reasons and still won. @SpursOfficial very disappointing."

Meanwhile, David Luiz was keen to tell former manager Jose Mourinho that Arsenal's penalty was deservedly awarded.

Luiz, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea, simply said "it was a penalty" with a noticeable grin on his face.

Lacazette sent Hugo Lloris the wrong way to secure victory, moving the Gunners to within four points of their rivals.

Harry Kane saw his late free-kick come off the post as Tottenham's top four chances were dealt a major blow.

Mourinho's side are six points off fourth-placed Chelsea but have a game in hand.
