An Icelandic football match was forced to abandon after 70 minutes when an especially fierce arctic blizzard took hold.

It occurred when Fram of ReykjavΓ­k hosted Breidablik in Iceland's League Cup on Thursday night.

Breidablik, who ply their trade in Iceland's top tier, were 1-0 up against the hosts from the league below when Mother Nature struck hard.

At first, the snowfall was just a gentle flurry. But things soon picked up and the snowfall raged into a full on storm.

The referee was forced to abandon the game on 70 minutes.

A few brave players stayed behind to see if the game would resume, but soon found themselves covered in snow.
