Swindon’s shamed players have been told to reimburse the travelling fans that saw their FA Cup humiliation at Macclesfield on Saturday.

The League One club’s stars will all stump up for all 305 of the supporters that made the long journey from Wiltshire.

Angry boss Mark Cooper said: “We’ve agreed to cover the cost of the fans that travelled. Not because we’re creeping, it’s a gesture of appreciation.”

Swindon, currently seventh in League One, are outside the play-off places on goal difference. Macclesfield are 14th in the Conference Premier division.

The most expensive away tickets for Swindon fans were £18 while supporters also had to shell out another £15-£20 to travel up on the club’s coaches.

Cooper added: “It was the worst game I’ve been involved in as a manager. I have made sure the players know it was unacceptable.”
