Albion boss Tony Mowbray is resigned to losing top-scorer Diomansy Kamara, who wants to quit the Championship side.
And the Baggies have lined up Beattie (left) as a replacement with the forward on his way out of the Scottish champions following the arrival of Chris Killen from Hibs and Motherwell's Scott McDonald.
Mowbray is a long-time fan of Beattie, 23, after trying to sign him for Hibs.
