Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is targeting former Celtic midfielder Stephen Pearson in a £1.5million move from doomed Derby.
Pearson is on loan at Stoke, who could try to make the move permanent by meeting the fixed fee in his contract.
However, Birmingham could tempt Pearson, 25, with a long-term deal. He played for McLeish in the Scotland side and would like to follow big pal James McFadden to St Andrews.
Fabrice Muamba and Mehdi Nafti are set to follow former boss Steve Bruce to Wigan, so McLeish is going to need some new blood to keep Blues in the top flight again next season.
