Nicky Maynard continued his goalscoring return from injury as Bristol City eased away from the relegation zone at the expense of free-falling Coventry.

In his third start since making his comeback, Maynard struck his third goal to set the Robins on their way after 15 minutes.

Lewin Nyatanga poked home David Clarkson’s free-kick nine minutes later to give Keith Millen’s side a two-goal cushion.

Clarkson then put the visitors firmly in control a minute before half-time from the penalty spot.

Coventry were given a glimmer of hope when Lukas Jutkiewicz pulled a goal back eight minutes into the second half, but that hope was shortlived as Marvin Elliott completed the scoring after 82 minutes.

Boothroyd said: β€œIf Marlon has raised his hand, it gives the referee no option and he has to go.

β€œWe were only saying in the week that our games have been tight this season and there are lot of positives because we very rarely get done by more than one goal. I should have kept my mouth shut. It’s all down to our first-half performance – inept and inadequate.”

Millen said: β€œIt’s a strange one to analyse. We were clinical in our finishing. We took our chances without playing that great.”
