Colchester boss John Ward insists his side need to be more clinical after they were held at home.

The Us went ahead through Andy Bond’s 22nd-minute header but they failed to take their chances and Reda Johnson drew Plymouth level just after the break.

Lee Molyneux saw red for Plymouth late on after receiving a second yellow card but they held on for a point.

“We hadn’t finished the opportunities in the first half, but we had them in the second half,” Ward said.

“We’ve done a lot of good things in the game and we’ve played against a good side.

“But we’ve stood up to them and we’ve now gone six matches without a defeat. We’re tough to beat but we have to finish off our forward moves.

“We just haven’t quite been clinical enough in the first six league games to give us a point or two more.

Plymouth manager Peter Reid bemoaned his side’s first-half display.

“Sometimes you have to earn the right to play football and in the first half we didn’t,” said Reid.
