Bruno Fernandes' private expectations for Man Utd this season under Ruben Amorim - The Mirror

The Portugal star is reportedly confident that Manchester United can secure a top-five finish in the Premier League this season

Bruno Fernandes is said to be confident that Manchester United can secure a Champions League spot, despite the club's disappointing 15th-place finish last season under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils were tantalisingly close to playing in Europe's premier competition, but a loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final dashed their hopes. The new season has seen a mixed bag of results for United and Amorim, with four losses in their opening matches.

However, they entered the October international break on a high note, securing a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford. This win eased some pressure on Amorim, with United now sitting tenth in the league, just three points behind the top five and arch-rivals Manchester City.

With 31 games still to play, Fernandes is optimistic about United's chances of finishing fifth or even higher, according to BBC Sport.

The report also suggests that Fernandes is fully committed to United's cause and is determined to help shape a brighter future for the club.

The absence of European football could potentially benefit Amorim and his team, allowing them more time to prepare for weekend Premier League fixtures.

Fernandes' performance will undoubtedly be key to United's success, with Amorim continuing to utilise him in a deeper role.

Despite potential frustrations with this position and United's struggles, he has no interest in transferring to the Saudi Pro League. Al-Hilal made a significant offer to the 31 year old this past summer, but that was turned down.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr are also believed to be interested. His contract at United expires in the summer of 2027 with the club having no imminent plans to sell him.

These updates follow comments from Sir Jim Ratcliffe regarding Amorim's future as head coach which certainly confirms plans to stick by him despite a rocky start.

"He has not had the best of seasons. Amorim is a good guy. I would say Ruben needs to demonstrate that he's a great coach over three years," he said.

"That's where I would be - three years - because football is not overnight. Look at Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, he had a miserable time the first couple of years."
