Stand-IN striker Eddie Johnson earned Bradford a deserved win.
The former Manchester United man has played all this season in midfield, and was only moved into attack to replace leading scorer Peter Thorne, who went down with a hip injury.
But Johnson scored the winning goal after 54 minutes when Joe Colbeck crossed from the left and Barry Conlon's shot deflected kindly into his path.
Omar Daley blazed over beforehand as the Bantams pressed.
Morecambe almost equalised in stoppage time when Craig Stanley hit the post with a 25-yard effort.
