Darrell Currie has received medical treatment and also turned to alternative medicine as the Scottish football presenter looks to get to the bottom of his illness

TNT Sports presenter Darrell Currie is not giving up on finding a treatment to help with a mystery illness. The 42-year-old has revealed prescribed medicine has done little to help alleviate the symptoms of a condition which caused "explosions" in his head.
β
Currie has worked as a TV host for more than a decade, including as part of the BT Sport team before the 2023 TNT Sports rebrand. Much of his work has come on coverage of Scottish football, while he has also taken hosting duties for European club competitions.
β
The broadcaster opened up about his condition in the summer of 2024. "It felt like a bomb went off in my brain. Like something exploded in my head,β he said at the time.
β
Since then, Currie has been treated by doctors for his mystery condition, which has caused him chronic pain. The Glaswegian told The Times that things began in 2022 when he was covering an international football match between Scotland and Ireland, explaining things have only got worse as he searches for help.
βSometimes I felt like a bit of a guinea pig,β Currie said. β[Doctors] were just throwing things at me. Some would prescribe things without naming the meds, then you start reading about them and think, wait a minute, why am I taking this?β

However, he has now suggested Long Covid could be at the heart of his issues and has turned to alternative medicine.
β
βI was getting crushing head pains again and terrible dizziness,β he added. βJust standing up was a struggle. By the new year, the small progress that I had made up to then vanished and every day felt like a marathon. I just felt that like this amount of drugs was going to kill me. I felt like I was dying, honestly.β
In addition to his Times interview, Currie shared an update on social media. "Main thing to say is - never give up," he wrote. "After an exhausting search for answers Iβm now leaning on alternative + naturopathic medicine. Every day is still tough for me, but conventional treatments were not helping. My body needed a break from prescribed meds.
β
"The reason Iβve spoken now is to help other people who are on a medical merry-go-round and struggling to get answers. Iβve learned a lot and if I can share any of that, or help in any way, please get in touch and Iβll try to get back to as many people as I can in the coming weeks. Thereβs always hope."
After sharing his story, Currie received messages of support from a number of social media users. "Top man Darrell, keep fighting," wrote one, with another saying: "You are an inspiration to so many for the way you keep fighting so hard for yourself and your family."
