Stokes and Archer's fiery moment as England U-turn fails on Ashes day two

England's Ashes hopes are dangling by a thread as they crash towards defeat in the Third Test Match in Australia. They trail by 158 runs with two wickets remaining at the close of day two.

The visitors needed something of a miracle to claw themselves back into contention following a first day marred by controversy over a failure in the use of Snicko technology. It did not arrive as Jofra Archer's bowling tactics were matched by the skill of Australia's batsmen.

Then what followed was a near collapse, with hope kept just about intact as Archer and his captain, Ben Stokes, built up a partnership at the end and will return to the crease on day three.
