Tyson Fury has insisted he is not returning to the ring for the money.

The ex-two-time heavyweight world champion announced his retirement from boxing last January after consecutive losses to long-standing adversary Oleksandr Usyk. However, his retirement was short-lived. Just six months after his shocking announcement, the 'Gypsy King' revealed plans to make a comeback to the ring in 2026.

In recent days, the 37-year-old has been intensifying his training in Thailand, working alongside fellow professional boxer Kevin Lerena, the current holder of the WBC bridgerweight title. As the Morecambe fighter sets his sights on a bout this year, he has revealed exactly why now is the best time to make a comeback.

Despite all of his illustrious accolades, it's the love of the fight game which is the sole reason for his return. "I have literally won everything from regional belts in England to super world titles... fighter of the year twice. Ring Magazine twice. WBC.... every one of them. Every world title I have fought for... for me, there is nothing else other than the fight game. I love this fight game. There is nothing in it for financial gain," he stated in a video posted on Instagram, reports the Mirror.

"I could have retired 10 years ago. I've made an absolute fortune. It's not about the money, although, I always want a good deal for sure. It's mainly about the love of the fight game and the sport. I'm 37, I'm 38 this year, I am older than a motherf*****, but I love to fight. I have zero other interests... only fighting.

"I was born and raised to fight My destiny lies within the fight game. And at the end of it all, I'll be punching like a motherf*****, and I'll probably be ending up in a wheelchair like the rest of them all. Punched to death, don't know if it's Tuesday, Wednesday or December, but it's the game I chose, it's the life we chose. This is the life I chose! We ain't stopping. We ain't f****** leaving."

Following Fury's second loss to Usyk in December 2024, the Manchester fighter has demanded a trilogy bout with his Ukrainian nemesis. After their pair of epic encounters in Saudi Arabia, the 'Gypsy King' is seeking revenge - but only if the clash takes place on British shores.

In a recent Instagram upload, the 37-year-old revealed his three-man target list as comeback speculation intensifies. Fury has pinpointed potential clashes with both Anthony Joshua and Fabio Wardley. The heavyweight shared a social media snap showing himself eyeballing his three heavyweight adversaries. A prospective bout with 'AJ' remains uncertain after the British boxing legend narrowly escaped death following a horrific car accident in Nigeria - which claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

Frank Warren, promoter for Fury, recently gave an update on the potential fight, confessing that it might not take place until late 2026 - if at all. In a chat with The Mirror, Warren confessed he's uncertain about what lies ahead for Fury or Anthony Joshua following the incident. "Well, boxing will certainly be the last thing on his [Joshua's] mind, right now," he stated.

"He's obviously lost two team members who were good, close friends who are now no longer with us, so that will be a big loss to him. I don't know the extent of his injuries, but it's also how mentally this will affect him. Boxing again will be the last thing on his mind, but tragedy can affect people in different ways; sometimes, you need something you can really focus on to pull through to the other side."
