ACCRINGTON made an excellent start to their Conference campaign with goals from Paul Mullin, Peter Cavanagh and Lutel James earning them an emphatic victory.

Mullin, who scored 24 goals last season, put Stanley ahead five minutes before the break with a typical poacher's effort, nipping in after Lee McEvilly had headed on a Steve Jagielka corner.

Eight minutes into the second half, Cavanagh doubled the advantage with a terrific free-kick after McEvilly had been fouled by Terry Henshaw.

Andy Ducros gave Burton hope with 20 minutes left, also with a free-kick awarded for an Ian Craney challenge on Chris Hall.

But the visitors' hopes of taking something from the game did not last long for a minute later former Bury striker James made it 3-1 with a close-range volley after Mullin had headed on.
