GRAVESEND produced a strong second-half performance to win 4-1 as Leigh faded badly.

Two goals from Roy Essandoh secured victory, but for a long time it looked like the hosts would not find a way through.

In a cagey opening period, Essandoh, came closest to breaking the deadlock with two glancing headers.

After the break, though, Gravesend stepped up the pace decisively.

Lee Protheroe was first on target with a superbly struck free-kick after Barry Miller had bundled over Manny Omoyinmi just outside the box. Then Essandoh took centre stage, first rising above his marker to thump a header home before he drilled low into the net from 18 yards.

With time running out, the hosts made the game safe as Steve McKimm hit the fourth and Gary Williams' goal for Leigh was scant consolation.
