Alien enthusiasts have been left scrambling for answers after a glowing object was captured on camera seemingly hovering over the active Popocatepetl volcano in Mexico

Sci-fi fanatics have been left scratching their heads after footage of what appears to be a UFO was spotted floating around an active volcano.
Video from a webcam shows the eerie glowing object hovering over the Popocatepetl crater in the Mexican states of Puebla and Morelos before it suddenly zips off at high speeds. The suspected flying saucer appeared to be monitoring the smoking crater as smoke and flames leaped into the air. The bizarre phenomenon was captured by monitoring cameras at the bottom of the volcano last Thursday.
Popocatepetl stands at an altitude of 17,802 feet (5,426 metres) and is one of the country's most active volcanoes. So far, local authorities have not issued a statement on the origin of the mysterious flying object.
The National Center for Disaster Prevention reported 19 low-intensity eruptions accompanied by vapour, gases and small amounts of ash on the day in question. They called on the public to stay away from the crater and respect the 12-kilometre exclusion zone.
Last year, UFO expert Jaime Maussan claimed that Popocatepetl is acting as an "inter-dimensional portal", a gateway in space-time that allows intergalactic travellers to enter one place from another.
The 72-year-old shared his beliefs that no man-made object could enter a volcano due to the temperatures reaching around 1,000 degrees Celcius, What's the Jam reported.
Maussan said: "The University of Bergen in Norway discovered that under the volcano there are magnetic storms necessary to be able to generate X-points - or regions of electron diffusion - and be used to create a Dimensional Portal."
X-points are places where the magnetic field of Earth connects to the magnetic field of the Sun, creating a path from our own planet to the Sun's atmosphere 93 million miles away. They are referred to as X-points because the Sun's magnetic force is intertwined with that of the Earth, creating an X shape.
Elsewhere, alien enthusiasts have claimed a government cover-up is underway following a crash at Area 51 which sparked a military probe and weeks of speculation.
The incident on September 23 saw an unidentified aircraft crash on public land just outside the classified government facility in Groom Lake, Nevada. The Creech Air Force Base confirmed early on that the crash was the result of a mishap involving an aircraft assigned to the building's 432nd wing, which houses unmanned aerial vehicles.
While an internal investigation has since opened and closed, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and the FBI have now launched a joint probe that has fuelled speculation among UFO fans, who have slammed new security measures as "absolutely bogus".
Local outlet KLAS-TV reported that the FAA confirmed issuing a temporary flight restriction covering a five-mile stretch to the east of Area 51 "for national security reasons" on the day of the crash, but other details of the incident have been largely under wraps. The restriction remained in place until October 1, covering an area near the infamous Extraterrestrial Highway.
