Colchester were unable to crown their first league game at the Weston Homes Community Stadium with a win as Huddersfield held on for a well-deserved point.
There had been little to choose between the two teams in an entertaining first half, though Colchester's football was slightly slicker.
The Us had edged the opening 45 minutes, with Clive Platt's close-range effort pushed around a post by Terriers goalkeeper Matt Glennon and winger Mark Yeates hitting the woodwork with a chipped free-kick from the edge of the area.
The evergreen Andy Booth's half-volley sailed only inches over for the visitors, who looked threatening when on the attack.
Huddersfield felt they had a decent appeal for handball in the area in the second half when Johnnie Jackson blocked Jon Worthington's effort, and Booth failed to properly connect inside the six-yard box in the final minute.
