The ramshackle house, with boarded-up windows, crumbling walls and filled with rubble, could be the scene of a horror film.

But the derelict house is featured as the new Wayne Manor in the new Batman film, due to be released in March this year.

The film, intended as a follow-up to 2013's Man of Steel, features an all-star cast including Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

The haunting snaps of the downtrodden house were taken by Seph Lawless, a 37-year-old photojournalist from Cleveland, Ohio, who was contacted by the production company after his previous images caught their eye.

Seph said: "In 2015 I did work documenting abandoned American shopping malls and the hardest hit areas of New Orleans for the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina - both went viral online, and I managed to get Hollywood's attention."

"My images are known around the world, and Batman v Superman's production company contacted me after seeing one of my images in the news," he continued.

"The image was of a really cool abandoned house in Detroit - it wasn't just the location they loved, but my edit of the image too.

"It inspired the whole conceptual view of what would eventually become Batman's mansion in the epic films."

"The house used for Batman's mansion underwent significant changes before filming even began," he continued.

"They secured the entire foundation and even added a second chimney on the side of the home, because set designers wanted more of a gothic feel."

"The boats on the side of the house are actually props, which place the cryptic mansion next to water using special effects," Seph added.
