We've all seen people have a go at Man v. Food challenges and fail - in fact we recently tried our hand at one involving a tower of pancakes and were easily defeated by the sheer volume of sugary goodness on the plate.

However one man was determined to complete his own giant food challenge and potentially break a world record - and he thinks he's managed to do just that.

YouTuber Joey Chestnut, who is a competitive eater, recently attempted to eat the most McDonald's Big Macs he could in one sitting.

The 36-year-old from Kentucky, USA, scoffed an incredible 32 burgers in under 40 minutes earlier this week.

Yes, really.

It took the food lover exactly 38 minutes and 15 seconds to polish off the lot - consuming 15.36lbs of burgers and a whopping 18,016 calories in one go.

That's more than the recommended weekly calorie intake of the average man, which is 17,500.

Chestnut shared a 13 minute video of himself undertaking the challenge, which has already garnered over 88,000 views.

He wrote: "Since being a kid, I've dreamt about eating as many Big Macs as I could. As the ultimate cheat day event, I ordered 32 Big Mac sandwiches from Uber Eats and recorded the experience.

"According to McDonald's, the Big Mac features two 100 percent pure beef patties and Big Mac sauce sandwiched between a sesame seed bun. It’s topped off with pickles, crisp lettuce, onions and American cheese for a 100 percent beef burger with a taste like no other."

He continued: "I remember being a little kid and they would sell Big Macs for $4 and me and my grandpa would get four of them. I'd end up eating three.

"And this is bringing me back to being a kid. Me and my grandpa would go back to the same McDonald’s every time. And it’s crazy, when I drive by that McDonald’s I still kinda just think about it.

"I think about all the times I was there with my grandpa and it’s weird the way that food takes you back and helps you remember things. With Big Macs, I definitely remember my grandpa.

"I ate 32 Big Mac in 38 minutes, 15 seconds. I’m still amazed at how good the Big Macs tasted. It’s so much easier to eat a food that you’re familiar with and your body just already knows."

Watching the full video, the challenge certainly didn't look easy, with Chestnut starting to sweat five minutes into the attempt and admitting his throat was "tired" at 16 minutes in.

But he persevered and finished the whole lot, in what some are saying is a new world record - although official confirmation of this is yet to be announced.

Mirror Online have contacted Guinness World Records for comment.

This wouldn't be the first time the YouTuber has set a record if it is the case, with him currently holding a record for eating 74 hot dogs in 10 minutes which he did back in 2018.
