Restaurant shooting kills three and wounds eight as manhunt launched

The US has been plagued with a gun violence problem and the country has suffered from hundreds of shootings already this year.

272 mass shootings have happened across the US, according to Gun Violence Archive. The organisation defines a mass shooting as an incident where four of more people are injuried.

Several people were gunned down by a crazed gunman in a Manhattan skyscrapper in July. The gunman was later identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura.

Mayor Eric Adams said: "Early this morning, I was briefed on the shooting that happened overnight at a Brooklyn lounge that already took the lives of three people and left others wounded.

"Our NYPD officers are working hard to find the people responsible and quickly bring them into custody.

"We will not tolerate this senseless gun violence in any corner of our city. My prayers are with the all the victims and their families.

This Brooklyn shooting comes just days after a child left three people in hospital after a shocking shooting in Times Square.

A 17-year-old was arrested in New York's world famous square on August 9 after the teen opened fire at around 1.20am EST (6.20am BST). An 18-year-old woman and two men, aged 19 and 65, were injured in the horror incident.

The teenage shooter - who has not been identified because of his age - was taken into custody, with officers having recovered a firearm from the scene, the NYPD said

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for the NYC mayoral race, said: "A shooting in Crown Heights early this morning has stolen the lives of three New Yorkers and injured eight more.

"I’m grateful for the first responders who rushed towards the danger and worked to save lives.

"We cannot accept gun violence in our city."

Witnesses have reoprted a huge police presence in the Crown Heights area following the shocking incident.

Locals on social media said a cordon had been put in place and "crime tape stretched for blocks".

The suspects in Sunday mornings early morning shooting have still not been arrested.

Cops confirmed the three people killed in the fatal shooting were pronounced dead at the scene.

Although police arrived to the restaurant just minites after the shooting, they could not save the victims.

Eight others were rushed to hospital with what the NYPD described as non-life-threatening injuries.

A seciton of Franklin Avenue, outside the restaurant, has remained closed while officers investigate the mass shooting.

Three men died after the shooting and eight injured people were taken to hospital.

This included five women and three men.

The 11 victims ranged between 27 to 61 years old.

The NYPD revealed multiple shooters were involved in the horror incident following a "dispute" inside a crowded club.

Police also revealed at least 36 shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Police are still at the scene of the fatal shooting in Brooklyn.

Gunmen opened fire inside the Taste of the City Lounge on 903 Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

The restaurant serves American and Caribbean food and has a full bar, sisha, and DJs.

The eight injured were quickly rushed to local hospitals following the shooting.

The state of these people has not been confirmed but none are reportedly in a life-threatening condition.

The road outside the Taste of the City Lounge, at 903 Franklin Avenue, was closed off as swarms of police investigate the horror shooting.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said this horror incident was an anomaly amid the cities falling crime stats.

She said: "We have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year we’ve seen on record in the city of New York.

"Something like this is, of course, thank god, an anomaly and it’s a terrible thing that’s happened this morning."

A firearm has been recovered following the mass shooting but investigators are looking into whether it is tied to the restaurant horror.

The firearm was found near Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway, according to abc7.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told a news conference that multiple shooters hit up the restaurant in the early hours of the morning.

She added that investigations were ongoing and nobody was in custody.

Tisch added: "It’s a terrible thing that happened this morning and we’re going to investigate to determine what went down."

The NYPD has warned residents to stay away from the horror shooting site as officers investigate the incident.

Police were seen inside the restaurant after the shooting and outside looking through CCTV to piece together what happened.

No arrests have been made following the deadly attack and the perpetrators are feared to be at large.
