A man's body has been recovered from a river with multiple emergency services called out to the scene this morning.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to reports of a person in the water at 7.46am and remain at the scene along with police and ambulance. The incident happened at the River Tawe near Fabian Way, Swansea.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said this afternoon: "Officers were called to the River Tawe at Quay Parade, Swansea at around 7.50am on Thursday, November 13, following a report of a person having entered the water. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the RNLI, and the coastguard also attended. Shortly before 1.30pm, divers located a man’s body, which has now been recovered. Formal identification has yet to take place."

Many people have taken to social media to express their "sadness" after a man's body was pulled from the River Tawe.

One person wrote: "Really sorry to read this. Thoughts are with the persons' family and those involved in the efforts to save him.

Another wrote: "Sympathy and thoughts to all the rescue workers involved as well, such a sad day for all involved."

And a further stated: "So sad, seen the police and divers going in, thoughts with the family."

15:30 - Man's body has been recovered

A man's body has been recovered from a river after emergency services were called to the River Tawe in Swansea just after 7.30am, police have now confirmed.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Officers were called to the River Tawe at Quay Parade, Swansea at around 7.50am on Thursday, November 13, following a report of a person having entered the water.

"Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the RNLI, and the coastguard also attended.

"Shortly before 1.30pm, divers located a man’s body, which has now been recovered.

"Formal identification has yet to take place."

14:02 - RNLI lifeboats in rescue mission after reports of person in river

The RNLI launched lifeboats this morning to aid the emergency services in their search of the river after a person was suspected to have entered the water.

The Mumbles Lifeboat RNLI wrote on Facebook: "The Mumbles RNLI Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) and All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) launched at 08.00 hrs today, following reports of a suspected person in the River Tawe.

"HM Coastguard teams, South Wales Police, along with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, who were also in attendance with their boats. The All-Weather Lifeboat provided safety and search cover in the river mouth, whilst the Inshore Lifeboat assisted the fire service in searching the river."

12:14 - Second incident at River Tawe in a month

Emergency services were called to the River Tawe in a sepereate incident on October 14 after a 46-year-old man entered the water.

He was then detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and conveyed to hospital.

11:59 - South Wales Police issue statement after reports of person in the water

South Wales Police has issued a statement saying they are at the scene with other emergency services.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Officers are in attendance at the River Tawe at Quay Parade, Swansea following a report of a person having entered the water. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, The RNLI and the Coast Guard are also in attendance. This incident is currently ongoing."

10:26 - Fire service says incident is 'ongoing' with reports of person in water

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 7.46am on Thursday, November 13, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews from Swansea Central, Carmarthen, Swansea West and Morriston Fire Stations were called to an incident along the River Tawe near Fabian Way.

"This incident is currently ongoing. Crews have responded following reports of a person who has entered the water. Crews are currently working with the RNLI, South Wales Police and the Coast Guard to undertake a search of the river and riverbanks."
