Ocado's 'weight management' aisle includes smaller portions and high-protein meals designed for customers on GLP-1 medications like Wegovy

A major retailer has unveiled a 'small steak' tailored to shoppers using weight loss injections who require smaller servings, whilst keeping their diet nutritionally balanced.

Ocado's new 'weight management' section features items from Marks & Spencer's latest 'nutrient-dense' collection β specifically crafted for people on GLP-1 weight loss treatments. There are also dishes containing fewer than 600 calories yet packed with protein.

Beyond the Turf and Clover small extra lean steak (100g), products in the aisle include the M&S high protein cottage cheese, two beef burgers and nutrient-dense Romesco chicken. Huel ready-to-drink black edition chocolate 500ml is there too, in addition to chicken teriyaki and turkey lentil bolognese meals.

Ocado joins the likes of Marks & Spencer, Waitrose and Greggs in recently promoting fresh product lines aimed at those taking GLP-1 medications.

Figures indicate that up to 2.5 million British adults were using weight loss jabs by July last year. However, Ocado's own research revealed that more than one in five (22%) had contemplated trying them, rising to over a third (37%) among 25- to 34-year-olds.
Yet despite the rising popularity, the survey commissioned by Ocado discovered that merely 40% of shoppers grasped how GLP-1 drugs, widely recognised by brand names including Mounjaro or Wegovy, assist users in shedding pounds.
Meanwhile, 73% of those questioned indicated it would be beneficial to identify which foods and dishes could help maintain lean muscle mass throughout their weight loss journey.

Charlie Parker, senior nutritionist at Ocado Retail, said: "As weight loss medications become more widely used, itβs crucial that diet and nutrition remain part of the conversation. Preserving lean muscle mass plays an important role in long-term health, metabolism and overall well-being.
"Weβre seeing customers actively seek out high-protein, high-fibre foods and balanced meal options to support healthier weight loss journeys and with reduced appetites."

Week-on-week data from Ocado spanning late December through to early January revealed a dramatic spike in demand for protein-packed essentials, with steak sales jumping 63%, chicken soaring 88%, cottage cheese rocketing 138% and liquid egg whites climbing 82%.
The research was conducted by Savanta, which polled 2,134 adults across the UK in December.
