Lib Dem activists sang bawdy songs about Charles Kennedy and told Tony Blair to f**k off and die at a boozy singalong, last night.

Lib Dem Glee Club is without a doubt, the weirdest event in British politics.

Held on the final night of Lib Dem conference, it's a raucous, geeky, beer-soaked sing-song of epic proportions - and not for the faint hearted.

It was standing room only in the Balmoral Suite of Brighton's seafront Hilton Hotel, but nobody who did not witness the madness inside would have believed it.

At Glee, dozens of Lib Dem activists take to the stage to sing well known songs - but with politically themed lyrics.

Even senior party members - including at least one of their eight MPs - took to the stage to serenade the hundreds strong crowd with gusto.

Think of Glee as somewhere between a karaoke night, a satirical revue and an am-dram performance.

And it's grown a bit of a reputation over the quarter of a century or so it's been running.

Activists speak of it in the hushed tones used to talk about an embarrassing uncle - one who's dearly-loved but shouldn't go out in public in case he insults the Queen to her face.

The Liberal Democrats insist it's an unofficial event, despite it being held in the official conference hotel and having been attended by senior MPs and officials.

Here's a few of the things we witnessed at Glee Club this year.

It was, as always, really busy

The Balmoral suite was full to the rafters to hear the bawdy singalong.

They told Tony Blair to f**k off and die

Warning: This video contains strong language.

I'm told this song has been a staple of Glee Club since 1995 - before Mr Blair was even Prime Minister.

Here are the lyrics to said singalong

They're printed every year by a scurrilous publication called Liberator - think Private Eye for Lib Dems, but on a lower budget.

They're totally fine with having a laugh at Charles Kennedy's expense

Everyone stood up at once when the song began. An oddly touching tribute.

They sang a tongue-in-cheek 'Ode to Brexit'

And they even had a pop at Owen Smith

Yep - again, strong language in this clip

And then they sang a song about David Cameron allegedly having sexual relations with a dead pig

Even Alistair Camrmichael couldn't resist a bit of fun

He sang a song about Scotland, of course.

And Simon Hughes - a regular Glee Club attendee...sang a song about himself
