A major police response has been launched after the body of a woman was found in a canal.
Emergency crews were seen at Bridgewater Canal in Altrincham, Greater Manchester on Wednesday morning,
A specialist police team is carrying out a search in the area with part of the canal path closed off by police on nearby Oldfield Road.
Tragically, Greater Manchester Police confirmed the body of a woman was found in the water, Manchester Evening News reports.
In a statement, the force said: "Shortly before 8.30am on Wednesday 10 December 2025, officers were called to Atlantic Street, Altrincham to reports of a body in the water.
"Emergency services attended and sadly the body of a female has been recovered from the water. Officers are currently working to establish her identity to inform and support her loved ones, and the circumstances surrounding her death."
