Here are the five key things you need to know
- Four people were killed in the collision, Greater Manchester Police confirmed. The victims include the driver and two passengers from a red Seat Leon, and the driver of a Citroen C4 Picasso
- Five other passengers involved in the crash sustained various injuries and were rushed to hospital. Their current conditions are unknown, but the incident is being treated as a major trauma event
- The crash took place at about 12.45am on Wigan Road in the Deane area of Bolton. It involved a high-impact collision between the Seat Leon and the Citroen C4 Picasso
- A large police cordon remains in effect as of midday Sunday. Wigan Road is closed in both directions between Deane Church Lane and Bankfield Street, which is a major thoroughfare, and the closure is causing significant traffic disruption in the surrounding Deane and Daubhill areas. Drivers are advised to avoid the area entirely.
- The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is leading the inquiry, and is urgently appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or saw either vehicle (specifically the red Seat Leon) beforehand. It's also asking for any dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the area around 12.45am
