One Tory former Minister recently told me the now former Shadow In-Justice Secretary was finally playing a constructive role in Badenoch’s team. If he was co-operative, it was a cynical charade as he plotted treachery. Jenrick’s political journey from Cameroon One Nation Tory to shouty, Hard Right reactionary videoing fare-dodgers and car boot sales is said by erstwhile colleagues to be powered with an even more ambitious wife with the hardest Right handshake in Britain.

Whatever Jenrick’s motivation, bandwagon-jumping and a promise of the Cabinet glory denied him by the Conservatives in high office likely to be two drivers, Farage may regret this dalliance.
