When you think of a Michelin-star restaurant, you probably expect a menu overflowing with overly fancy food and an eye-wateringly expensive bill to finish.

But one establishment has earned itself the reputation of being labelled “the cheapest Michelin-star restaurant” in the UK thanks to its affordable options. The Coach in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, is owned by celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, serves a three-course lunch for just £25.

This menu changes weekly to make the most of seasonal British produce, and is available every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

To give you an idea of what is available, the set menu for this week is Warm New Potato & Salt Cod Salad, Beef Chilli with Sour Cream, Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with Blood Orange. You can choose to opt for two courses for £20.

The main menu also features affordable options, including The Coach Burger with Crispy Mac ‘n’ Cheese, BBQ Pulled Pork and Smoked Mozzarella for £25.50 and Braised Lamb Shoulder with Smoked Onion for £29.

The priciest standalone main is the Jerk Spiced Monkfish with Sweetcorn & Chilli Salsa and Bourbon Barbeque Sauce for £38. But the restaurant has also become known for its relaxed atmosphere.

Sarah Hayward, former Head Chef at The Coach, who now works at The Hand and Flowers, another Tom Kerridge restaurant, said in an interview with Living 360 in 2023: "It's such a special little place, and for a Michelin-starred restaurant, it’s very unintimidating.

"A lot of places offer these big, fancy dining experiences, but The Coach isn’t daunting at all; we have Sky Sports on, we serve burgers and chips. It’s super-accessible.

"We also have an open kitchen, so everyone can see the effect their work is having on people. The best feeling is when you’ve put a lot of love into it all, then you serve someone a plate of food and their eyes just light up."

The Coach opened in 2014 and was awarded its Michelin star in the 2018 Michelin Guide. Bradley Cacela was announced as the new Head Chef in May 2025.

At the time, he said he was "very excited for this opportunity from Tom, grateful for this to be my first Head Chef role and excited for the new adventure".

It comes after Tom Kerridge defended his other Michelin-starred pub The Hand and Flowers after one customer claimed the "beef from Costco is better".

Tom recently learned one customer launched a “full-on complaint” at restaurant manager Katie Mulliss. The customer ranted that the food he had been served was no better than something you might find at a cash and carry.

Tom told Pub & Bar Magazine: “Katie told me about it first thing this morning. The guest said the beef they get from Costco is better than ours.

“That is absolutely fine to have that opinion. I 100% know that it’s not, but you can’t argue with somebody who’s arguing that.”
