Nobody loves waking up to an icy windscreen, but it happens much more frequently especially in the winter. While it's nice to see a bit of snow, for drivers, it just means one thing...
As motorists, you must clear your car's windscreen before setting off otherwise you could risk a hefty fine. While it requires more time in the mornings, it also means your hands will get extremely cold having to scrap the ice off. Now one automative specialist from the West Midlands, known as @eden_tyres_and_servicing on TikTok, shared a tip to defrost your windscreen easily. They revealed in a video: "Here is the best way to defrost your windscreen according to a former NASA engineer."
Their first recommendation is to "turn on the car heater immediately at full blast". Following this, you "turn on the car's air conditioning, which will help soak up the remainder of any moisture inside" and helps to dry the vehicle out to prevent fogged-up windows.
The third piece of advice is to "turn off the car air circulation button" as keeping it on means "humidity is trapped inside". The fourth tip may catch you off guard as the experts revealed to "open all your car windows ever so slightly".
According to their guidance, this approach enables the "exchange of humidity in the car for the dry air outside," resulting in a clear, defrosted windscreen.
In the comments section, one user suggested: "Also, put your sun visors down-it traps more of the hot air against the screen."
Yet another commenter pointed out "this doesn't work" for their vehicle, suggesting that effectiveness may differ depending on the car model.
Others shared alternative approaches, with one person suggesting: "Slight warm water in a bottle and boom 5 secs later. Being doing it for 27 years and no smashed window," though this method isn't advised as it raises the risk of shattering glass.
A different individual remarked: "A sealed plastic bag with water slightly above cold-not even tepid-rubs all over windows. Works every time."
In a video clip, one TikToker voiced their annoyance: "My car doesn't have these fancy buttons. I have to turn my car on and wait for the heating to heat up, which takes about 20-25 mins."
Someone else offered another suggestion: "Ice scraper, proper Job, £1.99, takes 5 mins.
"Great tips," came another reply, with users keen to try them out this winter.
