Cheese stands as one of Britain's most adaptable foods - equally delicious in a sandwich, melted on toast, grated over a jacket potato, paired with crackers, or simply enjoyed on its own as a quick bite. And many would argue that Cheddar reigns supreme among cheeses.

Born in Somerset, this beloved variety makes up more than half of all cheese purchases across the UK, available in various strengths to suit every palate. However, with countless Cheddar options lining supermarket shelves, which ones truly deserve your money? That's precisely what one British food enthusiast decided to investigate.

Becca Stock, hailing from Gloucester, boasts 567,000 TikTok followers under the handle beccaeatseverything, where she consistently shares videos reviewing and ranking food from shops, eateries, fast food outlets, and takeaways. Her latest mission saw her assess 30 different Cheddar cheeses stocked by Britain's leading supermarket chains, reports the Express.

Kicking off the footage, she explained: "I want to find out who makes the best Cheddar cheese, so I've bought 30 different types from every supermarket. Let's rate them from worst to best."

Landing firmly at rock bottom is Violife Supreme Cheddarton, a plant-based cheese substitute. Whilst she clarified later that each cheese receives an independent assessment rather than direct comparisons, this particular product fared dismally.

The moment it touched her tongue, her face contorted as she exclaimed: "Urgh, vile.

"It tastes like sweet plasticine," she said. "Zero out of 10."

She embarked on a cheese-tasting journey, sampling offerings from big-name supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer, Iceland, Aldi, Asda, and Lidl. She quipped: "This is the dream, isn't it? Just standing in your kitchen, eating Cheddar for a living."

Securing fifth place in her cheese chart was Aldi's Spicy Cheddar with Chilli. Becca couldn't hide her enthusiasm, exclaiming: "Love, love, love this.

"I like it when I get spice, but I can also taste the flavour of the chilli pepper. It's really intense, from the moment you put it in your mouth it really hits you, and then it's just building and building and building. I can feel the flame at the back of my throat. The cheese is nice, it's smooth and it's creamy. That's a 9.5 out of 10."

In fourth place was Aldi's Specially Selected Extra Mature Cheddar. Becca was full of praise, declaring: "If you like a really strong mature Cheddar, that is amazing. That for me is a 10 out of 10."

Lidl's Deluxe Somerset Crunchy Extra Mature Cheddar clinched third place, sending Becca into raptures. "I've just levelled up to cheese heaven," she said. "It's delicious. If you want an extra mature cheddar that packs punch, this is it. It's creamy, it's crumbly. That is a 10 out of 10."

Just pipped at the post is Ivy's Reserve Vintage Somerset Cheddar, stocked across multiple supermarket chains and touted as the world's first carbon-neutral cheddar. Taking a bite, Becca said: "Holy moly. It's sweet, it's nutty, it's like, slightly almost caramelised.

"I love the texture of it, like it is creamy, but it's slightly crumbly. Cheese on toast would be taken to the next level with this. That, firmly in my mind, no doubt, is a 10 out of 10."

Claiming the coveted top spot is a flavoured cheese from high street favourite Marks and Spencer. Crowning the retailer's Barber's Farmhouse Truffle Cheddar as her ultimate winner, Becca declared: "The truffle flavour hits you straight away.

"Then there's this sweetness, smokiness, nuttiness. That's the best truffle cheese I've ever had. That's a 10 out of 10."
