Marvel fans are desperate to know about the forthcoming film in the MCU

Film buffs have been sent into meltdown after Marvel recently dropped its first teaser for the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Since then fans have been desperate to know everything they can about the forthcoming film from its release date, its huge cast, including some veteran stars, and more, after it was announced back in 2024. Here’s the lowdown on the latest instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which comes six years after Avengers: Endgame in 2019.
When will Avengers Doomsday be released?
Avengers: Doomsday is confirmed to be released in cinemas on December 18, 2026. So fans will have a year-long wait for the new film, with Marvel even including a countdown timer after dropping a short teaser for the new movie, which will be the first in a series of sneak peeks ahead of its cinematic release.
In the 80-second teaser dropped on YouTube on December 23, Marvel confirmed that Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) would be returning again after it was previously thought he’d left his superhero days behind him. The footage showed him getting off a motorcycle and going into a house, where he cradled a baby and was very much the doting father.

One person humorously posted: “Bringing back Steve is such a nice admission of defeat, warms my heart.” Another commented to remind die-hard fans: “Steve Rogers ain’t Cap anymore” as a third fan said in anticipation of the wait: “Now we all gotta stay at home 1 year to avoid any accidents.”
A second teaser trailer recently came out in cinemas ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash in which Chris Hemsworth’s Thor prayed to his late father and hoped to be reunited with his daughter. The teaser comes after previous purported leaks and even reports of a leaking of the third teaser ahead of its official release.

Who will be in the cast of Avengers: Doomsday?
Like all Marvel movies, audiences can expect a large ensemble cast comprising of some familiar faces from the MCU, Fantastic Four: First Steps and also 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe. As mentioned above, Evans will be reprising his role as Rogers for the forthcoming film. Here’s a look at some of the other actors joining him.
Marvel Studios announced the main cast of Avengers: Doomsday in a lengthy five-and-a-half-hour livestream back in March this year. As per The Hollywood Reporter, cast members include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Letitia Wright as Black Panther, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Danny Ramirez as The Falcon and Winston Duke as M’Baku.
Further cast members include those from Marvel’s Thunderbolts* movie, which came out in May this year, including Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Lewis Pullman as the character known as Bob.
From the X-Men universe, audiences can expect to see Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Joining them from the 2000s films will be Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler and Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Additionally, Channing Tatum, who was once involved in an ill-fated Gambit movie, will be in Doomsday. The Magic Mike and She’s the Man star previously made his Marvel debut in Deadpool & Wolverine.
From the Fantastic Four, there will be Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as The Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing and Joseph Quinn as The Human Torch. While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Tenoch Huerta Mejía will play Namor again. There will also be cast members, who weren’t mentioned in the main Marvel livestream.
Other actors slated to be featuring in Avengers: Doomsday include Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Mabel Cadena as Namora, Alex Livinalli as Attuma, and India Rose Hemsworth as Love. It’s also thought that others could be returning, such as Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter. But for now, it’s unclear whether Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool.
What will happen in Avengers: Doomsday?
Avengers: Doomsday was first announced back in July 2024 at San Diego Comic-Con with Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. confirming he was returning to the MCU. However, after retiring his character in Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr. will now be taking on the role of Doctor Doom. The film will take place 14 months after the events of the Thunderbolts* movie and see various Marvel teams all coming together to face Doctor Doom.
