Wolves have shown encouraging signs in recent league matches, with Rob Edwards leading his team to a three-game unbeaten run, highlighted by an impressive 3-0 victory over West Ham United. However, defensive frailties remain a major concern for the hosts, who have struggled at the bottom of the Premier League table this season. Wolves have conceded first in eight of their last ten games, and their defensive woes are further underscored by their failure to keep a clean sheet in their last 13 encounters with Newcastle United.
Newcastle United, meanwhile, will be eager to bounce back after a midweek Carabao Cup first-leg defeat to Manchester City. Prior to that loss, the Magpies were enjoying a four-game winning streak and will be aiming to regain momentum this weekend. In the Premier League, Eddie Howeโs side have won their last three matches, moving into European contention and scoring at least twice in each of those victories. Newcastle also boast an excellent record against Wolves, with four consecutive wins and an unbeaten run of eight matches in this fixture.
Given Newcastleโs strong form and Wolvesโ ongoing defensive issues, the visitors are expected to respond positively after their midweek setback. With over 2.5 goals scored in five of the last six meetings between these sides, a 3-1 win for Newcastle looks a likely outcome.
Wolves vs Newcastle Team News
Wolves may not have defender Emmanuel Agbadou yet as he is due to report back from Africa Cup of Nations duty with Ivory Coast while Marshall Munetsi (calf) and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (thigh) are ruled out for the rest of the month. Defender Toti Gomes continues his recovery from his thigh injury into February while Leon Chiwome's ACL rules him out for the rest of the season.
For Newcastle and the defensive issues still continue with Fabian Schar (ankle), Valentino Livramento (thigh), Emil Krafth (knee), Dan Burn (abdominal) all ruled out for the trip to the Molineux along with long-term absentee Jamaal Lascelles. To top it off Jacob Murphy has been ruled out for the rest of January with a hamstring injury while forward William Osula is currently a doubt as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.
