Italy will face off against Israel on Monday as the UEFA Nations League 2024/25 edition gets into full swing. The Azzurri are coming off an impressive 3-1 victory over France, putting them in a strong early position in League A Group Two.

On the other hand, Israel's campaign began on a sour note with a 3-1 defeat to Belgium. Despite being considered underdogs in the group, they had hoped for a better start.

Italy's triumph in France was particularly notable for its dramatic turnaround. After conceding their fastest-ever goal just 13 seconds into the match—when Bradley Barcola capitalised on Giovanni Di Lorenzo's error to score past Gianluigi Donnarumma—Luciano Spalletti's men mounted a spirited comeback. Federico Dimarco and Sandro Tonali combined for a stunning equaliser, Davide Frattesi put Italy ahead, and Giacomo Raspadori sealed the win with a late goal.

This victory marked Italy's first win in Paris in 70 years and lent credence to Spalletti's vision of a fresh start for the team. Despite a lacklustre performance at Euro 2024, where they exited in the last 16, Italy is now infused with new talent as they aim for their first Nations League title.

Roberto Mancini, who led Italy to Euro 2020 glory and a third-place finish in the 2023 Nations League finals, has departed. Spalletti has taken over with ambitions of at least securing a top-two finish in League A Group Two to advance to the new quarter-final stage.

For Israel, avoiding relegation will be a significant challenge. Fourth-placed teams face automatic demotion, while third place results in a playoff. Promoted from League B in 2022 after topping a group that included Iceland, Albania, and initially Russia, Israel now finds themselves up against much tougher competition.
