Shinzo Abe first became the Prime Minister of Japan in 2006. He served for a year, but resigned in 2007 due to ill health.
Abe made a political comeback, and he was reelected as Prime Minister in 2012, retaining his position in the 2014 and 2017 general elections.
He is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party.
