South America's premier international competition has had a varied history. Originally played to mark the centenary of Argentina's independence, it was played at different intervals for much of its history before adopting a more regular slot every four years. But 2016 brought a special 100th anniversary edition, hosted by the USA, just 12 months on from the previous tournament.
