Selena Gomez has lashed out at Hailey Bieber on social media after she appeared to shade her in an interview. Rhode Beauty founder Hailey, 28, seemed to be making a jibe at Selena, 33, and her own Rare Beauty brand.
Hailey, who is married to Selena's ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, appeared to spark anger from Selena who then took to Instagram to slam her. Hailey said she “doesn’t feel competitive with people she’s not inspired by.”
Then directly addressing the topic of fans making comparisons between her and Selena's brands, Hailey admitted find it “annoying.” Writing a post on the social media platform before swiftly deleting Selena said: “She can say what she wants, it doesn’t affect my life whatsoever.”
She continued, “It’s just about relevance not intelligence. Be kind. All brands inspire me. There is room for everyone. And hopefully we can all stop.” She then urged her fans to “leave the girl alone,” seemingly referring to Hailey.
Selena dated Justin on and off for several years, with her and Hailey regularly thought to be feuding. Hailey and Justin got married in 2018 before welcoming their baby son Jack Blues in 2024.
The pair tried to end their rivalry in 2022 when they posed for a picture together to show there are no hard feelings between them. However, fans were not convinced by the attempt at showing a united front.
It was noted in June that both women had unfollowed each other on Instagram, further fuelling speculation that they are in fact far from friends. Speaking to WSJ Magazine, Hailey spoke about the pair being pitted against each other, saying, “It’s always annoying being pitted against other people.
“I didn’t ask for that. When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.” Selena, meanwhile, tied the knot with her long-term love interest, Benny Blanco, last month.
The couple had a lavish ceremony surrounded by their family and famous friends in Santa Barbara, California. Selena and world-famous music producer Benny held their wedding at a private residence in the region.
They had their guests stay at the closeby luxury El Encanto Hotel. Guests included Selena's bestie, Taylor Swift, who took time out to be there to support her union, as well as her Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, and Marvel star Paul Rudd.
The pair have regularly shared images from their big day on social media since tying the knot. Benny dedicated multiple posts to his new wife, displaying their wedding attire.
Selena is no stranger to the downsides of a high-profile relationship, having previously been linked to stars including Nick Jonas, Charlie Puth, Zedd, The Weeknd, and, of course, most notably Justin, whom she split with for good in March 2018. The pair had dated for in excess of eight years at the time.
