Kanye West shocked fans when he debuted his new titanium teeth worth $850,000 (£675,000) last month and one expert believes he could be having an allergic reaction to the dentures.

The rapper has sparked concern from fans after he shared a new clip of himself on Instagram. In the video, Kanye's lips seemed to be swollen and his top lip had a large lump on it. Many of his followers thought his new dentures were to blame and thought the metal might have cut him.

Dr Ross Perry suggested the inflammation could be due to an allergic reaction. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, he explained: "Kanye could well be sporting an allergic reaction to his new titanium dentures.

"As a metal they will likely take some getting used to as it's such a heavy structure which will no doubt cause rubbing, irritation and sores possibly seen on Kanye's lip." However, the doctor also suggested it could simply be a cold sore.

He told us: "It could also be a simple cold sore - HSV-1 virus which is also known as Herpes or put simply a cold sore. In appearance these are are painful lumps or blisters which appear on the mouth/lip area.

"They're caused by a virus and are very contagious and can easily be passed from person to person in close contact. Once someone has contracted the virus, it remains dormant in the system - but can flare up around 2/3 times a year."

He suggested flare ups can be caused by stress, exposure to the sun, an injury to the affected area, fever and fatigue. Dr Perry added: "There is also the possibility Kanye has a keloid scar where a small trauma can cause a larger scar to form. Treatment often involves a steroid injection to shrink the scar."

Kanye unveiled his brand new look last month on a date night with his wife Bianca Censori. The couple dined at Chateau Marmont in Beverly Hills, where they were joined by comedian Chris Rock.

Kanye is believed to have designed his new dentures himself. It's not the first time the rapper has changed up his teeth. In 2010, Kanye stunned Ellen DeGeneres when he claimed during an appearance on her talk show that he had replaced his bottom row of teeth with gold and diamond implants.

Dr Ross Perry spoke to The Mirror on behalf of Cosmedics skin clinics.
