Jamie Foxx is "steadily improving" after suffering from a medical complication.

A source reassured fans that the Day Shift actor was "on the mend" after he was hospitalised following a medical complication that was "serious enough" for family members to come into town.

Jamie's daughter Corrine, who he shares with ex, Connie Kline, released a statement to let fans know what had happened.

"We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday," she wrote. "Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.

"We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, The Foxx Family."

It comes after filming for his upcoming movie Back In Action was reportedly "shut down" following the health scare. He'd been working in Atlanta alongside Cameron Diaz and Glenn Close earlier in the week.

According to People, a casting director had informed fans on Thursday that a scene set to film this Sunday has been canceled due to "changes in production."

Pictures also emerged of a stand-in being used for Jamie as filming resumed the next day.

TMZ also reported that Jamie is now "doing a lot better" and is even "joking with his family."

"The medical emergency was serious, and doctors still haven't gotten to the bottom of what happened to him. He'll be in the hospital for at least a few more days, while doctors perform tests," the source said.

Jamie's celebrity pals have come forward to send well wishes to the star.
