Emmerdale star Lorraine Chase has recalled the shocking moment when she nearly died while choking before a barmaid saved her life.
The actress, 68, said she's "lucky to be alive" as she admits she's "never been so frightened in all my life".
The scare took place after a piece of rye bread became stuck in her throat as she celebrated a friend's birthday at a local pub, and if it wasn't for the barmaid that rushed to her aid, Lorraine may not have made it.
Recalling the terrifying experience to The Sun , Lorraine revealed her friends were too shocked to help her during the choking scare.

The actress - who played Steph Stokes in the hit ITV soap - said they thought she was having a heart attack.
She recalled: "I was eating a little piece of smoked salmon on rye bread, which was quite dry, and it just went down the wrong way and became stuck in my windpipe.
"I've never been so frightened in all my life. I'm lucky to be alive. I was coughing and choking. I couldn't breathe."

Lorraine said she didn't know how long she was choking for, but said it was "quite funny" to see her friends sit there in shock.
She added: "I've got no idea how long it went on for. All I know is that it went on long enough for my lips to go slightly blue, so it was long enough. I remember my friend Jamie saying, 'Lorraine, are you all right?' but I couldn't breathe or talk at all. I was frightened that I was going to choke to death."
Lorraine has had a few health scares in the past, more notably when she revealed she battled cancer twice in secret.

Lorraine had a growth removed from her face just three weeks ago after completing an entire panto season with the illness.
She also brought to light for the first time a previous battle with cervical cancer, which she fought without telling even her closest family.
Doctors now hope they have removed all traces of the disease.
